BMV Notice for Driver Safety Program

Did you get a notice from the BMV?

The Indiana BMV sends a letter notifying drivers when they must complete a Driver Safety Program (DSP). Drivers are typically required by the BMV to take a DSP when they are convicted of two or more traffic offenses within a 12-month period or if they are under age 21 and are convicted of two or more traffic offenses during any time period. Drivers who receive a notice must successfully complete the DSP within 90 days of the notice or their driver license will be suspended.

DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM NOTICE
Date of notice XX/XX/20XX

OPEN IMMEDIATELY IMPORTANT NOTICE

Records maintained by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) indicate that you must successfully complete a BMV-approved Driver Safety Program ("DSP") within ninety (90) days of the date of this notice. A DSP, also known as a defensive driving school program, is a four (4) hour course that is available in classroom, video/DVD, and online formats. This is a BMV requirement and does not take the place of a course you may have been ordered to take by a court of law.

If you fail to complete a BMV-approved DSP within ninety (90) days of the date of this notice, your driving privileges will be suspended effective XX/XX/20XX. Your driving privileges will remain suspended until the BMV is notified that you have successfully completed an approved DSP by the DSP provider. The DSP provider will notify the BMV within seven (7) to ten (10) business days of successful completion. Please allow extra time for processing.

Upon notification of successful completion of the DSP, a four (4) point credit will appear on your driving record. The four (4) point cradit can only be applied to your driver record once every three (3) years.

For information regarding BMV-approved DSP providers visit www.myBMV.com or contact us at 888-692-6841.
